My name’s Kirsten Bett. I was born in New Zealand and lived there for my first 10 years. Now I live in the Netherlands with my partner Wim van der Voet. My photo was taken at Enkhuizen in September 2020. It was windy, I have silver hair. Time to publish my first book. It’s about our emigration to New Zealand in 2007 and our unexpected return 10 years later.
Wilma our cat travelled to and fro’ with us. That’s quite special for a cat, especially one that was dumped when she was only a few weeks old. So she tells our story in her unique and observant way.
I was inspired by Hiro Arikawa’s The Travelling Cat Chronicles whose heights I do not aim to reach. I mean: you couldn’t. The Japanese setting, the poetry of words, the simple and intense story. But Arikawa’s book made me realise you can tell a story through the eyes of a cat.
I especially wanted Wilma to tell her story as she died on 26 December 2019. In this blog I will introduce you to Wilma, us, the other main players, the places, and poetry.
My website name has the word ‘author’ in it. I have only had a couple of poems published. I don’t want to mislead you. I am an ‘aspiring author who has written one book’ . But that is too long for a url… So I chose the word author as an extra motivation to get cracking. I am on the second draft now. I blog about the main characters, places and poetry. Please let me know what you think of my posts, I would love to read all your blogs too.
